Sir Lowry-s Pass

In 1828 the pass was constructed by engineer Charles Michell using convict labour. The pass was opened on 6 July 1830, and named after Lowry Cole, the Governor of the Cape Colony at the time. In the 1930s, the pass was widened and tarred; improved in the 1950s, and in 1984 the upper parts were widened to four lanes in a reinforced concrete construction.

Old Harbour

Hermanus Harbour

The oldest of the range of Hermanus attractions, this natural harbour is often a focal point of village activities. The Old Harbour is one of the historic highlights of the town. Proclaimed a museum in 1972 retaining its original character from the days it was the centre of activity in the fishing village. It includes an indoor and an open-air museum displaying from old boats, parts of the old sea wall, brine tanks to "bokkom" (dried sardines) stands.
